On entering the Carballeira de Francos, we find the Stone Cross of Francos, considered one of the oldest in Galicia (15th century), it was described by Castelao in his work Las Cruces de Piedra in Galicia (1950), when addressing the origin of our stone crosses. Located in the surroundings of the oak grove in Francos and alongside the old school, today converted into a Casa Común (Community Centre) of the Town Council, it is intimately linked to the Xacobean route that passes alongside it, as evidenced by the reliefs of two pilgrims set on the sides of the cross.

As Castelo himself points out, it is a “cross standing on a broad stone column, (...) our eyes would judge it as very old if we did not consider the dramatic details of the crucifix”. It is a granite cross on a quadrangular pole reminiscent of the form of a menhir. It even has a small cross-shaped engraving.

The Christ is of a Gothic style, crucified with three nails, wearing a crown of thorns, face tilted right, knees bent, and with a tightly bound cloth of purity, accompanied by rudimentary figures that could represent two pilgrims, reinforcing its link with the Portuguese Camino.
