Xacobean Camino that links Braga with Santiago de Compostela, traditionally used by muleteers bringing wine from the Ribeiro to Compostela.
The final section of this Xacobean Camino crosses our municipality from south to north, entering through Pontevea, running for 14 km through different parishes up to the defunct Hermitage of San Sadurniño, in Montouto, which was the natural viewpoint from which pilgrims used catch their first glimpse of the Cathedral’s towers. The trail passes mediaeval churches, such as a that of San Cristovo in Reis, and that of San Simón in Cacheiras.
Documents from the 17th century to the 20th century subsequently bear witness to the passage of the muleteers through the places such as O Crucero (now Pontevea), Chao do Río, A Florida, A Ponte Nova, A Lagoa (A Ramallosa), etc.
A historic path through well-preserved traditional villages (A Pedra, O Sisto, Pedrouso) and natural spaces of great beauty, such as Sestelo woods. The route runs alongside numerous cultural and ethnological sites.
Pilgrims choosing this itinerary will enjoy a route that is varied and entertaining, safe (far from main roads and traffic) and with rest areas with numerous fountains to replenish their strength before entering Compostela.
