Ancient bridge over the Sestelo Stream as it passes through the parish of Rarís, crossed by the Camino da Geira and Muleteers.

Build on the site of another older bridge, probably of Medieval origin (hence the name of “Ponte Nova”), this bridge, located in the parish of Rarís, was a viaduct that was widely used for several centuries and well into the 1970s, when it fell into disuse as its size only allows the passage of carts and carriages and not motor vehicles. It is a single-arched bridge made with good stonework in its noble parts and rubble masonry in the rest.

The ruts in the road owing of the transit of carts are evidence of the importance of this commercial route that allowed the transport of goods from the Terra de Montes and O Ribeiro to Santiago de Compostela and the Rías Baixas.
Muleteers and pilgrims crossed the Sestelo Stream over the Ponte Nova, and today it is still a remarkable heritage element on the so-called Camino da Geira and Muleteers.
