Información do patrimonio
It is located on the side of a road near the village of Cornide, on the border between the parishes of Calo and Luou. It is signposted and is part of the PRG-238, Teo petroglyph trail.
It is located to the south of the village of Cornide, a few metres east of the engraving known as Rio Angueira 2, on a hill facing the course of the River Angueira.
The designs are located at the northern end of a granite rock that shows alterations resulting from stonework. The figures consist of several circular combinations, some composed of several concentric rings with central cup and others by simple rings joined by lines of grooves. The most visible motif is a complex combination with a diameter of around 55 cm. These small combinations were placed by Acuña Castroviejo within the typology of “faccia-oculi” motifs, defined by the Italian archaeologist Emmanuel Anati, which are reminiscent two large eyes. According to these authors, this type of iconography could refer to some type of idol and would have a religious function.
The combination of larger concentric circles is visible during most of the day. However, the rest of the figures show a higher degree of erosion and it is recommended to visit in the late afternoon, to better appreciate the entire panel with the help of the sunlight.
