After many years in obscurity, the “Cross of O Xastre”, which gives its name to the hill located between the villages of Freixeiro, Valiñas and Coira, once again looks as it did in the days gone by, just as the older inhabitants of the area remember it. The restoration of this little-known asset, still waiting to be catalogued, takes on essential significance in the process of recovering not only the artistic heritage of Teo, but also of the intangible heritage of the parish of Reis.
It is a simple cross set on a crag alongside the old cart track, today hidden in bushes after falling into disuse, and near a Neolithic burial mound catalogued in 2001. It has a long hexagonal shaft with start and finish in square section, capitel with moulding and a simple cross with Florentine finials. The restoration work was carried out by the stonemason from the Costa da Morte, Ángel Cousillas, highly experienced in this type of work. Thanks are due to the family that owns the land for their cooperation and to the villagers who reported the damage to the stone cross and even brought fragments of the cross to the Town Council to avoid its loss and made the recovery thereof possible.
