Bordered by the Mediaeval Bridge, Pontevea, a village in the parish of Reis of great economic and social activity throughout its long history, is the gateway to the Municipality from the South, and it is undoubtedly influenced by the natural boundary made by the River Ulla as it flows by, which explains the regular feasts that have marked and determined, the town's evolution.

Pontevea is also closely linked to the history of the Burga de Pontevea. Since the end of the 19th century, when Pontevea was still the place of the Stone Cross, and especially in the early part of the last century, the high number of visitors who arrived to take the waters of A Burga de Xermeade led to the emergence of an incipient tourist activity in the “town”. Thus, many houses rented rooms for bathers to spend the night, and they were even allowed to use the kitchens. They used donkeys and mules loaded with skin recipients to transport the water from the source to the bathhouses. With the passage of time, small hotels were also built offering other services.

Also crossed by the Xacobean way of the Camiño da Geira and Muleteers, it was a place of transit and rest for muleteers and pilgrims. This led to a commercial boom in the town that has continued to this day.
